What's New in Actian Zen v13
  • Client Reporting Engine - The new 64-bit reporting engine enables customers to run SQL queries against client cache and offload large reporting workloads to a separate machine, reducing the impact on the main server engine. Once it is set up, the Client Reporting Engine presents to SQL clients the same databases as the main server, so all SQL queries can be run on the reporting engine. The Client Reporting Engine is available as a separate install on the Actian Zen v13 Server and Vx Server 13.
  • New Btrieve C and C++ API's - Actian Engineering has created a new, streamlined, more intuitive API to provide C++ database application developers simplified access to Btrieve calls. Now Actian Zen v13 developers can access the performance and flexibility of the Btrieve engine without having to learn the complexity of the original Btrieve API. The Btrieve 2 API SDK includes header files documenting the new APIs and 32- and 64-bit libraries for C and C++. The SDK also includes SWIG (Simplified Wrapper and Interface Generator) files for Perl, PHP and Python, enabling developers familiar with those languages to access Btrieve via the new C or C++ libraries.
  • v13 Beta for Raspbian, Windows IoT and Nano Server - Beta versions of Actian Zen v13 are available for: Raspbian Linux arm32, Windows IoT Core for x86 and arm32, and Microsoft Nano Server. Each of these operating systems will be a significant player in the IoT ecosystem, and Actian Zen's small footprint (as small as 30MB), zero-dba functionality, SQL and NoSQL access, and embeddable design make it an excellent choice for developers.
  • New Schema Export and Import in PCC - Actian Zen v13 now has database level exporting of all your metadata to a SQL script. You can use these options to recreate an entire database, migrate to V2 metadata format, and troubleshoot data access and performance related metadata issues.
  • Updated Cache Management - The butil utility has two new command options:
    • -cache - preloads pages for a file into cache
    • -purge - flushes all unneeded cache pages for a file
  • New SDK - The ADO.NET 4.3 SDK has been added to Actian Zen v13 to provide support for Entity Framework 6.1.

Note: Actian Zen Embedded v13 is a Windows only release. Linux, OS X and the GA versions Zen v13 for Raspbian, Windows IoT and Nano Server will be available in late 2017.
